Our projects
Our goal is to make our school an example for the others to follow. Obviously, each school has its problems, and solving them is the challenge that is given to all students. We spend most of our days at school. Do we want to be surrounded by garbage? Do we want to live in a bad environment?
NO, WE DON'T, we want a clean school! We want to get along with our friends in comfortable and fresh places! This is the goal of our project. If you have an interesting idea that you think could encourage students to have a healthier and ecological behaviour, speak to us through our email!
ECO-ESCOLAS (ECO-SCHOOLS)
In the past, our school participated in the "ECO-SCHOOLS" project. Unfortunately, this year we haven't been able to do it. The challenge we have in hands, right now, is trying to get us back into this project. It is very dynamic and has very creative and interesting activities. If your school has not participated yet, talk to the school board and with the teachers who are interested in the challenge. We´ll leave here the link to find out more about this subject:

More Recycling
Our school has a few rubbish bins for students to recycling. The whole school, we are about two thousand students, only has three bins. We are asking for help to the city hall and other environmental organizations to give us some bins. With this, we will try to help the Food Bank´s project "paper for food".
The goal would be to have bins in all rooms, but we are expecting at least, a bin in each building.
Try to do this at your school too, if you have the same problem.
For a cleaner school!
Funny Video
To raise awareness for students to be more environmentally friendly, we will make a funny video. Together with the student association we will record the students who pass in the school bar. Students that recycle will have a party. There will be basically a group of students present, that every time someone recycles will make a huge party with balloons and music. But, when someone does the opposite, we will scream "UUUUU". This is a way to show students the most appropriate action. We will record and show it, here on our site. If you do the same, send us the video and we will publish it.

We noticed that in our school, during breaks, teachers leave the light on. So we thought of a way to reverse the situation, to reduce this waste.
We decided then that we will put in every room, on the doors, stickers saying "turn off the light." So teachers have no excuse to leave the light on.
We hope that in this way teachers and students become more sensitized to this problem.

Less Paper
We spend tons of paper per day. At our school we are trying to solve this problem with a simple step.
At our school, when students miss school, they have to buy a sheet to justify their absence. This copy costs 10 cents and is half the size of an A4 sheet. Our idea is, instead of half of a leaf, be 1/4. Students will spend 5 cents per sheet and school board will spend less paper.
We save paper and spend less!

Lids
Together with teachers we support a cause of solidarity and recycle at the same time; "Vamos ajudar a Catarina"
All plastic lids will be collected and we will join several bottles full of them.
These lids will revert to Portuguese solidarity campaigns.
We will try to paste these bottles to the ceiling to make an original design!

Terrace/Outside Café
What students want from a school is a good environment. At our school most students go to the nearest cafés. Why? Because the school does not offer a space for leisure. We talked to several companies (Coca-Cola, Compal, Olá) and they will sponsor the tables and chairs for us to have a terrace/out side café.
This project was difficult but we did everything to complete it in the best way. And we were able to do it!
The summer is coming, get ready for your new Café near school!
Ecologic Debate
The idea is organize a debate about the environment with 3 or 4 relevant figures who have knowledge on this topic that would be invited.
The debate would occur at the school’s auditorium. The disciplines that are somehow connected to the topic would come up with some questions for the speakers in class.

Blind Date With a Book
Do you have books at home that aren’t your favourite genre or that you’ve already read and are at the back of your bookcase? Donate those books and let someone have a blind date a book.
The goal of this idea is to give purpose to old books and engage the youth into reading.To do so, books would be collected (from donations). The donated books would be wrapped in paper and on the top of the wrapping we would write information about the book.
This will allow the reader not to judge the book by its cover. It also adds a bit of mystery to “spice up” the reading.
Give new life to your books
As the 7th grade is the youngest grade at Pedro Nunes School, the idea is to welcome the new students in an ecological way.
To do so, the 4 classes would do the activity developed by “Quercus” called “Criar Bosques”(Create Woods).
During the activity the students would have to take pictures (creative and that look good), so that later the best pictures can be selected and there can be an exposition at school, social network, at the Greenschools organization website, and possibly at Quercus website too.

Greenschools Poems Contest
As part of being Portuguese, all of us have in our DNA Camões, Fernando Pessoa, Eça de Queirós…Great Portuguese figures and great writers.
Nowadays, we still have great writers and great environmentalists. But where are they? Closer than we think.
The Portuguese youth is not revealing the secrets and talents most deepest.
The Greenschools Poems Contest is coming and the only thing that our future writers and environmentalists need to do is to write a poem about the environment and send us. After a selection is made, the best poems will be included in a book.
The purpose of this book is to draw attention to environmental problems and have the youth gain interest in writing.
